Several people have asked whether we're keeping a blog for this journey, so I'd thought I'd give it a shot. Here's the plan - we're packing up the truck and driving as far south as Huntington Beach, mostly following the mountainous route on the way south and the coast on the way back. We're taking five weeks for the trip and have a planned route of about 3300 miles, which is about 900 more miles than simply travelling straight up and down I-5. We have 21 sets of reservations for accommodations, both camping and hotels, along the way.
The reason why we're embarking on this adventure now, is that Bob has earned an extra three week-sabbatical in addition to his regular vacation time. It's now or never. Are we crazy to drag two young kids over 3000 miles in a vehicle? Probably. Stay tuned.
